If you have visited Google Image Search lately you probably already noticed the new ajaxy interface. Although it’s cleaner and flashier I don’t like the fact that you have to move your mouse over each image to see the size, resolution and location of each image. And if your like me you’ll want to revert back to the old Google Image Search. So read on to find out how…

Firefox Users

  1. You will have to modify your Firefox profile so head over to: Start > Run
  2. Then copy/paste: %appdata%/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles
  3. Click on your profile folder and look for user.js and open it in Notepad or something similar.
  4. If you don’t see user.js in your profile folder just create a new text file (.txt) and name it user.js
  5. Now copy and paste the following lines to the end of the user.js file and save it.

user_pref(“capability.policy.policyname”, “nojs”);
user_pref(“capability.policy.nojs.sites”, “http://images.google.com”);
user_pref(“capability.policy.nojs.javascript.enabled”, “noAccess”);

You should be back to the old Google Image Search after you restart Firefox.

Note: If you are not in the US then replace images.google.com with your localized version like images.google.co.kr

Internet Explorer aka IE Users

If your one of the many people using IE then your out of luck and you’ll just have to live with the new Google Images.
JK =P

  1. Head over to images.google.com or your localized version.
  2. Now go to Internet Options and select the Security tab
  3. Once your in the Security tab, select “Restriced” and hit “Custom level”
  4. Browse to the Miscellaneous section and enable “Allow META REFRESH” and “Launching programs and files in an IFRAME”
  5. Click on “Sites” and add images.google.com or whichever localized version your using (Google Images should already be in the text box)

BTW, There’s probably a better way to do this then adding Google Images to the list of restriced sites…

Opera Users

If your one of the few Opera users, head over to Google Images aka images.google.com, right click and select “Edit site preferences”
Select the Scripting tab and uncheck “Enable Javascript”
Hit OK and refresh the page
