If you have a Google and/or Gmail account chances are that you have personalized search enabled. Basically this means that Google remembers everything that you ever search for (through Google) and personalizes your future search results based upon your history. Now I don’t know about you but I personally wouldn’t want a search engine to store every search I ever make especially if it’s going to modify my future search results based upon it. I’ll take my search results plain and unmodified thank you very much.

Here’s what you need to do to disable personalized search.

  1. First head over to www.google.com.
  2. Sign in to your account via the link at the top right of the page labeled “My Account”.
  3. Now click on “Edit” next to My services on your account page.
  4. Under Delete a Service, click on delete personalized search.
  5. You’ll have to re-enter your current password to confirm.
  6. Enjoy your privacy and plain, uninfluenced search results.
